Dana Point Turkey Trot w/ Colleen
November 24, 2005
Cold and smiling before the 5K Turkey Trot w/ Colleen.
Huffing and puffing during the turkey trot. I’ve been running 5Ks for years and this was the first time that I received four race pictures… could it be because I had an attractive racing partner? Probably…. not that I’m complaining.
Still smiling… It was great fun and an interesting experience to have a running partner, especially one who could have easily left me in the dust. Ack. She was very gracious in her support of my lumbering pace… just drives home the fact that I need to get out and run much more frequently than on various race days…. onward and upward. JBB 11/24/05
Happy T-Day for Grandpa
November 21, 2005

The family has been dying to see (and hold) the newest addition to our family. We had an early Turkey Day in San Diego on November 20th during which Baby Elena made her debut appearance. As you might be able to tell from the glow in my smile, getting a chance to hold my grandbaby really made my Thanksgiving holiday. Click here for additional pictures of baby Elena on my flickr account. JBB

Work Hard, Play Hard

After the first full day of classes in Boston (8:30am - 6:00pm), a group of us headed for the Union Oyster Bar restaurant in the downtown district of Boston. This picture was taken on the way back after over indulging in seafood, bread and beer (for moi). Lots of smiles and full bellies. Fortunately, none of those said bellies are featured anywhere in this blog. JBB 11/9/2005
Another Day in Cambridge (Paradise)
November 8, 2005

The plan had been to get here a couple days early so that I could spend one day exploring the city and surrounding environs. Unfortunately a couple things got forgotten in my plan. First was that I probably wasn’t (and didn’t) get any sleep on the red-eye from LA to Boston, thus when I checked in to my room (I actually got my room a little after 9:30 am… I thought I’d have to wait until later…) I had breakfast and then found the bed overwhelmingly inviting. So much for day one. Actually I did get up early enough in the afternoon to have taken off, but felt the need to read some of the books that I neglected to read while I wasn’t sleep on the overnight flight from LA. So, here I sit the first real day of our Face-to-Face (F2F) Pepperdine get together and I feel like I need to spend the day in my room catching up on all the reading and writing that didn’t get done before I got here. Damn. Well, I did have a good night last night trying to read bits of one of my book (”Flawed Advice and the Management Trap”) at a sports bar across the street called “Characters” while having a few “Cambridge Ambers” and watching the Colts clobber the Patriots on Monday Night Football. Oh well, back to the grindstone (damn… I’m payin’ an awful lot of money to do what I could have done in Long Beach… sit on my ass and NOT read!). Ugh. JBB (p.s., I guess one good thing about all of this is that I’m feeling compelled to write more in this journal, but then that is probably a result of having no one to really talk to and to share this experience with…).

Way Better Than Airline Food
November 7, 2005
originally uploaded by boringcom. It may not look like much, but to this traveller it was a wonderful gesture of love. Besides braving traffic around LAX (this place is going to be nuts during Thanksgiving), my sister packed a backpack safe/airline safe steak dinner (no knives require). Oh my god, after standing in the not-so-easy and definitely not-so-automatic check-in line for over 40-minutes, I sat at the gate waiting for my flight and really really enjoyed this wonderful surprise. I’m saving some it for the flight (over-night red-eye to Boston). Yum. I’m one lucky dude. JBB 11/6/05 9:39pm
No Time
November 2, 2005
originally uploaded by boringcom. The holidays are beginning their threatening approach (now that we’ve crossed the Halloween divide) and I have absolutely no time for so much as an afternoon or evening at the movies. Things to get done for Pepperdine, curriculum to design and implement at my day job. It only makes sense that given such overwhelming circumstances that I’d start another Blog/web portal at “My Space” and start a “photo blog” at Flickr.com. No time to sleep or workout, but making time to stick my face online. Check out my links and drop a comment. JBB Nov. 2005

My after-lunch students have been, shall we say, “problematic.” Middle-school students are legendary for their capacity to do anything but what is required of them. They are the best at simply stonewalling and doing dozens of menial tasks like continously sharpening their pencils until the hour is over. Generally they’re very good at waging a war of attrition. Friday the war went to a whole new level.
