Flacky?

April 26, 2007

question02 When I was a kid, my siblings and I enjoyed reading Peanuts comics and being the eldest boy, I identified with Charlie Brown. I really didn’t know what “wishy-washy” meant but Charlie Brown’s propensity toward bad luck and self doubt was something I very much understood. As an adult I can muster up an air of confidence on ocassion, but under the surface I have no illusion that I will ever have more answers than questions. Usually that’s not anything to worry about, but it can be down right debilitating when it comes to matters of Faith.

All it takes is an evening listening to some stand-up comedian and I find myself wondering about whose version of “the Truth” is closer to the real thing. This questioning/critical nature has served me well when it comes to staying open and having a “learner’s” heart. But this does kind’a disqualify me when it comes to defending the faith or being anyone else’s “guide to the truth.” I very much look at it from the basis of “this is what works for me, but your mileage may vary.” Does this make me wishy-washy? I genuinely do not know.

A Little Nintendo DS in my Life

April 15, 2007

04-14 Nintendo DS Box-Opening I don’t know if it comes from working with kids or watching things like “The 1Up Show,” but I’ve been on a hunt for the past three weeks for a Nintendo wii. When I told Juls she said, “But you’re not a gamer,” and that’s true. I’ve owned games for my computers since I’ve had computers and I think I played “PlanetFall” with my brother one time. Well, there were countless Solitaire session, but that doesn’t really count. Anyway, I thought the wii would be a way to get into and not be working all the time. Alas, rumor is that there won’t be any wiis shipping to vendors until the end of the month. So I decided to buy its little brother, the DS. Adios and don’t let the door hit you in the ass, productivity! This should be interesting. JBB

p.s., I did NOT buy a copy of Nintendogs because … well, because I don’t want to develop an unhealthy attachment to this little piece of plastic and it just seems to cut too close to truth of my pathetic life when it comes to having living things in my life… they had a version that featured daschunds. ack!

Rockin’ Taco Birthday?

April 7, 2007

rockintaco2 Greg asked why I was doin’ this. I said that I was doin’ this because she’s my friend and her birthday is tomorrow. Then I got a call 15 minutes before we were supposed to meet about ex-husbands failing to pick up their sons and all that and she was still in Corona. So I had a really big beer and smiled at the weirdness of everything. I don’t know, I was just glad to be doin’ something other than workin’ on school shit at home or being alone at Taco Beach. Not exactly high expectations here but that’s often the key to just enjoying the stupid things in life.

So.. Greg “told me” that I was going to go straight home after dinner and I did my “of course” laugh. But then admitted that having said that, I had doomed myself to a different fate. Fate. Ha! Screw fate. We had dinner, I showed her the 1st half of the yearbook and sang along with the dualing piano players. When one of them switched to electric guitar we were dancing in our seats. Ha, silly fate.

Can’t Relax Just Yet…

April 5, 2007

BROKPEN I finished yearbook duties last week and sent up a last minute admin-required candid picture change last night (I was worried that it’d be too late to make the change… oops). But other things have kept me from being able to just kick back. Damn taxes. Actually it shouldn’t take too much more time to gather the needed data. It’s just that I needed to catch-up on three-months of financial paperwork that I’d neglected due to yearbook pressures. Ack. God, I’m really looking forward to having next week off. JBB

PS3 Hidden @ My Local Costco

April 1, 2007

iPods & X-Box 360s right by the front door (and even some Zunes). PS3 tucked away. What’s up with that. And more importantly, why no Wii. I know as soon as I buy one at my local GameStop they’ll show up here for much less. Ack. JBB
