Not A Twitter Whore

I was hanging out with friends Saturday night, typical night out downtown with the gang, having a few brewskies, some fondue, a little friendly game of Trivial Pursuit. I was the designated “fifth wheel” so I decided to be the judge of the match between a co-worker, her husband and another coworker and his roommate. A fun time was being had by all. So I twittered about it. No big deal. Well, some time later Laura read my twitter and complained vehemently (in my Facebook) and in the office that I wasn’t doing my job, which is why she lost the game of Trivial Pursuit. What… er… WTF? When I got to the office I was greeted with the following video and a lot of giggling …

Pretty damn funny, and sadly I totally could relate to the “twitter down” panic… Damn, does that make me a T-W?

With One Voice Reflections

Saturday Afternoon, The Theater at Avalon Island, Downtown Orlando. The speaker shared his insights into what he called the seven concentric circles of spirituality or mysticism. I’m usually leery of anything that looks like a kind of spiritual “system.” But then as I listened I was reminded of my first year of university, at LMU, taking a class on Christian mysticism, and how surprised I was to discover that my conversion experience as a teenage could be understood as a mystic or mystical experience. And all these 30-years later I’m left with the term, Das Heilige, which encapsulated the idea of an encounter with The Holy that is both internal and Other.

If You Have To Spend Time & Money Saying, “I’m Cool Too,” Then You Aren’t

After the first Gates/Seinfeld commercial Leo Laporte predicted that the next Gates/Seinfeld commercial would be about them moving in together. It was said as a joke, but not long afterward Microsoft sent out a bizarre second Gates/Seinfeld commercial with the pair living with a family because, according to Seinfeld, “We’re out of touch.” Unfortunately most people who saw the commercial only saw the short TV version that had none of the charm of the longer YouTube version. And then, just like that Microsoft pulled the ad and replaced with the pathetic “I’m a PC” ad. Sad. I mean, none of the ads made me feel like jumping up and buying a copy of Vista. And if the intent was to make me feel better of Microsoft then they really failed. And pulling the second ad only added to my sense that they are clueless. Too bad, at least the second longer version was pretty funny.

What happened to the company that buried IBM and killed off Netscape? Apparently as they’ve aged they’ve lost that edge. As much as Apple often comes off smug and elitist, this Microsoft comes off whiny and pathetic. And while we’re at it, why the hell is Bill Gates in all the commercials? Didn’t he just retire from the company? jbb
