Loyola Marymount University B.A. Religious Studies – RS321: History of Christianity II – Spring 1987

Part II of my final course with Professor Fr. Ryan and yet another Research Journal. Fr. Ryan explained in my first class with him the year before that instead of having university freshmen do research papers that would have the facade that we’d done enough extensive research to justify the conclusions that should make up the body of a “research paper,” he thought it would be better for us to chronicle the research we did over the course of a semester, recording what we read and the information we gathers and then in the last paragraph of the “paper” conclude with the sentence, “Based on the research I have done I would write a paper about” and then add the research topic. His method put an emphasis on doing scholarship and reading source and only after that developing a thesis statement. Enjoy (2023-11-16)
