For the month of November I’m participating in a daily gratitude challenge posted by the journaling app that I use, Day One, and here’s today’s prompt:

What are three things I appreciate about nature?

  1. In a previous life, I spent a lot more time enjoying being in Nature… I do miss that, but not enough to do something about it. Ask me again next month. 😎
  2. Having grown up in Southern California, I don’t know if I ever really appreciated how close everything was as far as being able to hang out at the beach or hike in the hills/mountains. First time I got in an airplane and watched all of the open land below, I wondered how anyone could live being so far away from the coast. It just never dawned on me what it might be like to live somewhere far away from the ocean. When I moved to Florida I found myself in the middle of the state, but still only an hour from either coast. Funny thing, as much as I identified with living on or near the coast, I’ve never been one to actually get in the water. I’m just weird that way. Now it would seem that I’m perfectly okay with barely leaving my house just to go outside. Ack. I should probably work on that.
  3. Nature is awesome at helping one get some perspective on things. We are such tiny creatures in comparison to Nature. Feeling overwhelmed? A little time away usually makes for a good reset of things. It won’t really “fix” anything, but it can help refocus on the important things. And for those who are full of themselves and their accomplishments, there’s nothing like a little Mother Nature to remind us who will be still be here when we’re long gone. I do appreciate that about Nature being the great equalizer.
