For the month of November I’m participating in a daily gratitude challenge posted by the journaling app that I use, Day One, and here’s today’s prompt:

What are three things I’m grateful for, no matter how small?

  • New toilet seats. Really. Recently the hinges on both of my toilet seats gave up the ghost and I had to be very careful sitting down. I’m going to assume that it was just a coincidence that they both broke within days of each other. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were “original equipment” from when this place was constructed in the 1980s. It probably doesn’t help that now that I’m “working from home/retired” everything is getting a lot more wear and tear versus when home was more of a place where I collapsed at the end of the day. Yes, replacing the toilet seats is major “adulting” from my experience.
  • Yesterday’s Gratitude Challenge sent down a photography rabbit-hole that kept me working well past 4AM trying to find all of the images that I wanted to use. I’m thankful that I have the freedom to do that without having to worry about having to get up in the morning. Then I heard this morning on a podcast, Shortwave , that pulling the occasional “all-nighter” might provide a temporary antidepressant experience. Damn, that must be why I’m so chipper all the time.  😎
  • At my advanced age, I’m still entertaining thoughts about what I want to be when I grow up (some might be correcting me, “if I ever grow up”). I’ve been so many things over my many years and I’m fortunate enough to still entertain the notion that I can take on many of the mantles that I’ve worn over the years: writer, photographer, wanna be minstrel, and web-dude… I think I’ll quit now, while I’m ahead. Hope y’all have a wonderful (and restful) weekend.
