happy-dogs-no-news
happy-dogs-no-news

A couple weeks ago I posted the image above with a video of a cover of John Lennon’s song Imagine. Even though the temptation was strong to shut off all “news” and “media” (especially algorithm-driven social media!), I snuck in a suggestion that one should turn to trusted sources NOT driven by clicks, and listed the daily news podcasts that I listen to every day.

Besides having no desire to watch network or local TV news and just now getting over feeling guilty about never developing a habit to read the daily newspaper, I would strongly suggest that you use the podcast app on whatever device is most convenient to you and subscribe or sign up to receive the news shows that you want to get. If you go to the website that hosts the podcast there will usually be some button listing the apps and you can pick out the one you use. Personally, I’m a fan of the Downcast app that runs on Mac and iOS, in part because it lets me listen at 1.50 speed. But the best part is that I just open one app and everything is there. I don’t have to go searching around to different websites or apps.

For this post I’ve added to the list that I posted last time and included the daily and weekly tech news podcasts that I listen to. I’ve also changed it so that you can listen to the most current episode right from this page if you want to sample the shows before subscribing on your own device with your own app. The beauty of this page is that, in a couple days if you refresh the page in your browser it should show you the latest episodes of each of these podcasts. Enjoy (and subscribe!):

10 Years After Flint, The Fight To Replace Lead Pipes Continues Short Wave

Ten years ago, Flint, Mich. switched water sources to the Flint River. The lack of corrosion control in the pipes caused lead to leach into the water supply of tens of thousands of residents. Pediatrician Mona Hanna-Attisha recognized a public health crisis in the making and gathered data proving the negative health impact on Flint's young children. In doing so, she and community organizers in Flint sparked a national conversation about lead in the U.S. water system that persists today. Today on the show, host Emily Kwong and science correspondent Pien Huang talk about the state of Flint and other cities with lead pipes. Efforts to replace these pipes hinge on proposed changes to the EPA's Lead and Copper Rule. Have questions or comments for us to consider for a future episode?
