So, two weeks off, what to do? In view of my recent problems with gadgets one might think that I’d want to take a vacation away from the tech. Alas, it’s a sickness. I mean, I woke up this morning thinking about how i can “fix” things, like when iTunes breaks on the MacMini because the G4 sometimes gets “lost” for no known reason. It’s a disease. I know. I was flipping through some old “pre-blog” journals and i used write a lot more about my set-up, thinking out loud through whatever tech problem i was dealing with. So, be thankful that i only do this like whenever vacation time hits. Drobo, I’ve got Drobo on the brain.

smoke Right now the Matrox is down, so I have one 19″ LCD connect to my MacBook Pro and the other connected to my pretty blue transparent lucite 2GHz PC. Alas, the thing is underpowered with only 512 MB RAM and the fans are totally drive me crazy. It’s like my head stops hurting when I shut the thing off at night… a wonderful silence. So, I’ve gotta figure out what went wrong with the Matrox, so that I can “retire” the noisy PC. Then I’d like to “retire” the G4 that currently “hosts” my iTunes library.

The G4 is over five-years old, but it’s sooooo much quieter than the PC, and it can house lots of internal drives, which is why it was the natural choice to use as my media server. But when I switched to OS X it was a bit underpowered to as a video player (translation: my DVDs would stutter) and when I added the fourth internal hard drive (500GB) the poor little power supply started to complain and sometimes would stall on boot-up… not a good sign. Blah, blah, blah. I need to unplug shit and see what works best with what. Duh. Wow, I’ve managed to bore myself. Reset. Begin again. Ugh. JBB
