As a kind of follow-up to the whole thing about having advertisement on my blog, I was thinking about the natural distain most folks have for whole “selling out to the ‘Man'” thing. I mean, if we allow our creatives works to become entangled with the impersonal corporate machinery of makin’ a buck, how long will it be before the machines are telling us what it is that we really want in life? We may think that there’s no harm, that it’s all innocent to have robots in one’s blog feeding little ads along the sidebar. Innocent at first, then we become dependent on them to tell us what we want and before you know it we can’t make the simplest decision without their guidance and eventually their permission. Maybe my brother-in-law was right to feel distrust for blogs with ads. Hmmm. jbb
