I love the smell of fear in the morning, not from the kids, who are only marginally annoyed by the change in schedule but for the most part don’t give a shit, but from the administrators, as we enter this year’s … TESTING SEASON. According to legend the Jesuits are purported to have said, “Give us your children during the first five years of their lives and we will have them for the rest of their lives,” which I think was meant to communicate the importance of those early years of learning (and not things that are currently bankrupting the Roman Catholic Diocese of Los Angeles, but I digress). Alas, current thinking seems to be, that if Johnny can’t read than it must be the stupid teacher’s fault, so let’s show them and cut their funding. That’ll fix things. Anyway, in honor of all this pissing in the wind I present a little ditty performed by Tom Chapin called, Not on the Test. Enjoy. jbb
