Over the last few years the inspiration for my “Video Fridays” posts came from the media course that I was teaching. Teaching three subjects/six periods with only one prep period was definitely not sustainable, but changing my schedule to something more survivable meant no more media class. Damn. But now I have the challenge of coming up with writing prompts for a daily 15-minute “Mentorship” class.

The Mentorship class previously was called the Advisory class and back then met once a week to help facilitate testing and anything related to supporting students as we worked through working online, then hybrid, then full-time on campus. It’s a kind of home room, but now in 15-minute daily check-ins. The first couple times we met in August was hilarious because I had no idea how short 15-minutes is and completely ran over the time. There was no time for any kind of “lesson” so, like all of my courses, I posted daily prompts for them to respond to while I took attendance. But like any creative effort the time I spend putting the prompt together often exceeds the time students spend reflecting and writing their responses. And because there isn’t a grade connecting to the activity, there are more than a few students who couldn’t be bothered to participate. Ugh. So, I’m thinking that I’m going to post my prompts daily on the blog. Also, in part because the prompts are connected to news items currently going on I need to post them on the blog at the same time I’m giving them to my students to do.

Here’s the first one from a couple weeks ago. Enjoy.

There are probably a lot of voices in your life telling from Right and Wrong, maybe not using words but by the example of their actions. Do you see any examples of people being kind to one another, how does that make you feel?
