In a recent conversation with mom she said that she’d heard that I had started to “entertain” again… which was her euphemism for saying that I was again playing my guitar to audiences. When I tried to explain why I stumbled a bit and ended up saying something about music being the one consistent part of my life since I was fifteen and how I’d always heard that the point of playing music was to share it with others. Granted my first two times out it was more nerve-wracking than anything else, but I remain hopeful that some artistry and fun will eventually find expression over the nervousness. Today’s video echoes the idea that music is meant to be shared and the gift of enabling others to play music is even better, perhaps life-sustaining. I’m reminded of the words of the late Steve Jobs, that life is too short and you can’t afford to waste it living someone else’s version of life. We do it because we love it and it’s part of sharing the journey with others.
