Happy Thursday, y’all,… well, what’s left of it. The following is a collections of memes posted and related thoughts in blog-order, meaning beginning from the events/posts at the end of the day and ending with those from the beginning of the day. (10:30PM)
Tonight I attended the The Russell Frank Lecture Series: A Revolutionary New Radio Telescope for Nevada by Prof. Hallinan at UNLV. One thing that I love about living so close to UNLV is access to great presentations and nerd gatherings like tonight’s. The speaker went through the history of radio astronomy and plans to deploy a new radio telescope array in Nevada. Tonight’s presentation reminded me of the first documentary, The Astronomers (1991) , that I remember really getting because the documentary maker used the lives of the people doing the work to tell the story, instead of boring old dates and places without the biographies. A lot of time is spent in the documentary with a young doctoral fellow leading a radio astronomy experiment in Owens Valley using something for the first time called Interferometry to create an array of radio telescopes the size of the earth. Which was a method also used to create the first image of a black hole in 2017. I love nerdy shit like this. (8:18 PM)
In my happy place… also got one Medicare kerfuffle straightened out (bills for last month’s colonoscopy were rejected because the agency thought I had other insurance… that’ll elevate your heart rate ) and I found two possible local job offers that might be interesting. One step at a time. Gotta learn from previous mistakes and opportunities missed. (6:00 PM)
We can do better! (1:59 PM)
Nailed it! [mic drop] and Good night! (12:55 PM)
How many times do we have to say this? Freedom for everyone means that you cannot impose your free religious beliefs on others! (10:58 AM)
