This past Thursday would have been my childhood friend, Edward “Creagan” McConnell’s 66th birthday. The day came and went and I didn’t even think about it until this weekend. Damn. Don’t they always say that they’re not really gone if we remember them… kind’a requires that we actually remember them. I’m sure his sisters and nephews shared a moment, but I haven’t been in contact with them in a very long time, so the day got past me. That kind’a sucks.

I was lucky to have a life-long friend whom I turned to over the decades, even though there were some pretty big gaps in our communication from time to time. He passed while I was still living in Florida. I wonder what he would have thought about my move to Las Vegas. I don’t know if we would have communicated that much more frequently. Over the years I’ve let people I care a great deal about drift from my routine contact because my day-to-day had demanded everything and I had very little left over for those whom I wasn’t likely to interact with on a daily basis. It would have been interesting to see how our interactions might have changed with me moving to Las Vegas, had he not died in 2015. Happy belated birthday, my friend.
