This week I’ve decided to highlight several YouTube channels that are all about resurrecting old PCs and Macs. You’re welcome. It only makes sense, given my ongoing reflection (some might say “obsession”) with the past that I would find myself watching YouTube videos from guys working on computers from the 80s and 90s, trying to restore them. 

Who knew that when I bought my first computer in 1984 that I’d spend the next 24-years building and upgrading my various Windows PCs, and modifying my Macs from 2002 until 2020 when I added RAM to my 27” Intel iMac. Part of me wishes that I still had my original Kaypro IV, though I don’t know what I could do with it. There’s a definite nostalgia connected to all of the machines that I’ve used and managed over the years. Watching the videos reminds me of how much time and effort it took to keep them running and how far short they tended to be from the kind of writing, editing and archiving machine I imagined when I got into this 40-years ago.
