Video Fridays: The Saturday Giant
2014-08-05 Sleeping Moon Cafe, Winter Park FL. I’ve been busy this week updating my media website (see image at the bottom of this post for a sneak peak). While working on this project I found the following video of a musician who happened to perform at the open mic night that I had participated in and I was blown away. Phil Cogley from Columbus OH, performing under the moniker, The Saturday Giant, was in the middle of a tour with his dual mics, drum sequencer, guitar and open suitcase of gadgets. Unlike some solo musician who play with pre-recorded tracks or loops, The Saturday Giant builds each layer of the performance that left me surprised at the end results and delighted at how “life” and organic the performances felt. The song from the first video, I really couldn’t tell what song it was going to become until he began singing the lyric… The second video is from the actual open mic performance. This past year or so Phil has been touring and performing as part of the group, Pinkertones. I hope they continue to amaze their audiences when we get back to sharing music in live venues. Enjoy.
