Using video in the classroom should never be a matter of rolling in the old TV cart, flipping on the video and just sit back. That’s just video-babysitting and not an acceptable practice. Besides this generation of learners are not impressed by the novelty of seeing a video in the classroom. Thus, unless it’s a very short video that is mostly meant for inspiration, I’ve taken up the practice of using various interactive tools to convert that “sit-back” passive experience of watching a screen, to something more interactive where the “viewer” needs to pay careful attention because there will be questions every couple minutes about what the student just watched. Here is an example of what students viewed today as part of my robotics class. Enjoy.
