What activity that you enjoy, but haven’t done very much this past school year, do you look forward to doing as the school year ends? (And WHY?)

Well, I didn’t have any time today to respond to this post… and spent this evening rearranging my schedule for the next couple weeks for my intro to robotics classes because I had too few working LEGO EV3 robots and that was enabling too many students to be off-task, to annoy each other, to mistreat the few functioning robots and to force me to be in twenty places at once. Nope. This could have been better if we had at least ten dependable robots and a better balance of students in both periods. Having ten more slackers/disrupters in one period just makes for a poor experience and when things don’t go well, it does go to hell very quickly. Can you tell that I’m done.

Since last week’s Las Vegas Writers Conference I’ve been spending at least part of every day working on my blog(s), especially my JBB’s Media Projects website. I haven’t spent any time with my photography or the new camera that I bought last November and I have the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly event coming up next week… I also have many LEGO projects to work on…. For a millisecond, when I was thinking about the shortages of robots for students to program I thought about my own personal collection consisting of my EV3, LEGO robot inventor kit, LEGO WeDo, mBot robot and two Marty robots, that’s six robots right there. But the troublemakers have shown so little regard for the robots, not to mention disassembling the Maze I’d set up at the back of the classroom  and throwing LEGO pieces at each other and at me, that I thought better than to subject my electronic buddies to such trauma. Too bad. It’s going to be a bit strange, my fixation on small robots, now that I’m approaching the last 20-days teaching robotics. Funny thing is that I haven’t had the time to work on my own robots because I’ve been too busy juggling the aging robot parts inventory at school, working on curriculum and supervising the daily chaos of marginally engaged students. I wonder if the fingernails on my right hand will ever recover enough so that I can grow them enough to play guitar. My voice is not so tortured now that I’m using sound-re-enforcement in the classroom. Kids hate how loud it is, but I really don’t care. Yeah, there’s more than a few things that I will be getting back to in the near future. [sigh]
